Tashi
Gomang Stupa

The Tashi Gomang Stupa, consecrated in 1996, is the stupa of many auspicious
doors, symbolizing the 84,000 paths taught by the Buddha to reach enlightenment.
The Stupa is dedicated to HH The 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, and contains
his relics and those of many Buddhist saints.
“
Karmapa” means “He who performs the activity of a Buddha.” Since
the 12th century, the Karmapa has held the position of supreme head
of the Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism, the lineage known as the “sacred
word”. Each Karmapa, before he passes away, leaves behind a letter
foretelling the exact circumstances of his next rebirth. The 17th Karmapa
was discovered in Tibet in 1992 and presently resides in India.
The shape of the Stupa is an architectural rendering of enlightenment,
depicting the Buddha crowned and seated in meditation ona lion’s
throne. The crown is the top of the spire, his body the rounded shape
(bumpa), his legs the four steps of the terrace and the base of the
stupa his throne.
Thousands of stupas have been built around the world to enshrine the
relics of great Buddhist teachers and are held to promote peace, prosperity,
longevity, good health and harmony. The Stupa is open to the public.

The Sri Aurobindo Learning Center, founded in 1986 by Seyril Schochen,
is a non-profit educational foundation in association with Auroville,
the City of Human Unity, in South India. Based on the teachings of
Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, the center supports individuals from
all walks of life who speak many languages to aspire to an integrated
spirituality inclusive of all aspects of life.
Sri Aurobindo was a political activist, Indian Yogi and spiritual
master, who advocated the spiritual nature of all reality, which
he described
as “being, consciousness and bliss” or “sat-chit-ananda”.
To him the underlying thrust of the entire phenomenal world is a spiritual
evolution in consciousness toward a situation in which all material
forms will reveal the indwelling spirit. He did not advocate the withdrawal
from the affairs of life. The Mother, his spiritual coworker, founded
a many-faceted international community called Auroville.
Headquarters, Savitri House, is where meditation meetings are held,
a library is managed and there is a dome for larger educational,
scientific, cultural and spiritual gatherings. Call for the weekly
program schedule.

Sanctuary House, founded by Barbara and William Howell, is a retreat
and spiritual healing center, dedicated to meditation, knowledge
and prayer. Sanctuary House honors the major religious traditions,
as represented
by the four shrine rooms, and is dedicated to the authenticity
and beauty of the world’s major paths towards Union.
In the center of the courtyard, the Labyrinth, called a dromenon,
is an exact duplicate (within 1/8”) of the original labyrinth
on the floor of Chartres Cathedral, the principle Marian cathedral
of
Europe, and is a powerful walking meditation. It symbolizes the
spiritual journey that every soul is making. The inherent hope
built into the
labyrinth of Chartres is that there are no false turns (as in a
maze), but that by putting one foot in front of the other
we will
arrive at
the goal of life.
The mission of Sanctuary House is to provide a place of safety,
harmony, knowledge, silence, peace, community and sustainability
to anyone
who sincerely wishes to grow in the mystical promise and challenge
of being
human, in the love that unifies by uniting opposites, in the
service that gives appropriately and fully, in the wisdom that
nourishes
the root of life, in the humor and joy that keep the heart open
to wonder,
and in the truth that compassionately leaves no one out.
Meditation of the Hari Om Tatsat Jai Guru Datta dhun (chant)
is offered at 7pm every Monday and Wednesday. Sufi Zikr is held
at
7pm on Thursdays.
A morning of meditation is offered one Sunday every month. The
Labyrinth and Shrine Rooms are open to the public.

Little Shepherd in the Hills Episcopal Church is the oldest
spiritual center in Crestone, having a presence since 1885
when services
were held by a circuit riding priest at the old schoolhouse.
The current
location is a log cabin built in the 1900’s and given to
the Diocese in 1949 as a chapel dedicated to Lady Julian of Norwich,
a
14th Century English mystic.
The Episcopal Church descends from the Church of England
which has roots all the way back to Jesus and his original
followers.
The Church
of England developed during the 16th century, as it moved
away from oversight by the Pope, but did not reject its Catholic
origins. Called
the “via media” or the middle way between the
Protestant Churches and the Roman Catholic Church, the churches
in the Anglican
Communion maintain traditions found in both of these branches
of Christianity.
The Little Shepherd of the Hills is an Episcopal mission of the Diocese of Colorado
with a priest presiding over Eucharist the first Sunday of each month at 6:30pm
throughout the summer. The public is welcome. The chapel is open for prayer and
meditation.
